If you live in West Palm Beach, please join our group! We invite others in nearby cities like Jupiter, Stuart, Palm Beach Gardens, Lake Worth Beach, Delray Beach, and Boca Raton to join us, too. We meet at schools, coffee shops, and other central venues. We may be a mixed group, but we have this in common: we are storytellers with one goal—to connect with other writers and get published.
"The secret of getting ahead is getting started," said Mark Twain, one of the most prolific American writers. Maritza Cosano, Writers' Circle founder and CEO, started this group in 2014 to bring writers together. She believes writers need writers, so she connected with other writers in West Palm Beach who wanted to share and critique each other's work and prepare them for publication.
Writers' Circle creates a place where writers can get their stories started, shared, and critiqued to get closer to getting published. The group meets once a month—on the first Saturday—in coffee shops, juice bars, bakeries, bookstores—and anywhere around town that offers the perfect venue.
This year, we hope to bring Writers' Circle into Palm Beach County private high schools to enhance and revolutionize the way creative writing clubs can change a young writer's life.
Writing, like any other art, needs to be showcased. Writers' Circle helps create, what we call, "Your Creative Writing Club" and then challenges the student members to hone their skills by participating in monthly creative writing workshops, taught by Maritza Cosano.
These "On Writing" lessons and exercises offer the nuts and bolts of the craft of writing, including writing techniques and inside industry news. Under Cosano's guidance, students invite other students in grades 7 - 12th to enter "The Writing Competition" by submitting their best writing in three categories: fiction, non-fiction, and poetry.
Your Creative Writing Club then chooses to publish an eBook or literary magazine, which consists of a collection of student writing. Other packages include an eBook or literary magazine with a collection of student writing, art, and photography.
The Writers' Circle team—writers, editors, designers, and photographer—creates the publication and when completed, with the school's approval, sends it to press. Your Creative Writing Club releases the publication in mid-May to their school community.
